VOLLEYBALL VS. ONU
The Bluffton University volleyball team battled Ohio Northern in three tight sets, but the visiting Polar Bears walked away winners on Sept. 14. Bluffton fell to 5-4 on the season, while ONU improved to 6-2.
Freshman Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) was nearly unstoppable with eight kills against just one error for a .389 hitting percentage. Alysha Like (McComb) added eight hammers, while Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) smacked seven kills with a .300 hitting percentage.
The Bluffton High School golf team split a Northwest Conference tri-match at Colonial Hills Golf Course Wednesday evening, September 14.
League-leading Leipsic won with 172 strokes, followed closely by the Pirates (179) and host Allen East (199).
Bluffton was led by Jaden Coonfare, who shot a 42. Eli Wenger carded a 44, while Evan Speicher registered a 46. Jacob Boisvert contributed a 47 to finish out the Pirate scorers.
Aidan Sponsler and Logan Combs each posted a round of 50.
Playing at home, the Bluffton High School boys soccer squad shut out Van Buren 3-0 in a non-conference match Tuesday evening.
The Pirates improved to 3-4-1 with their second straight win. The Knights fell to 2-2-2 with the loss.
Nolan Hoffman netted a goal and assisted on the other two scores to
pace the victors. Hoffman started the scoring with a goal at the 18:40 mark on an assist from Justin Good.
Landon Novak scored to extend the lead to 2-0 on an assist from Hoffman 34:30 into the fray.
The Bluffton High School and Van Buren High School boys soccer teams will playi a memorial game honoring Bluffton Police Officer Dominic Francis, who was killed in the line of duty on March 31st, 2022.
The game will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday September 13, at Steinmetz Field, 9 Triplett Dr, Bluffton.
