BLUFFTON__The Bluffton High School volleyball team defeated Lincolnview in a five-set Northwest Conference battle on Tuesday, September 30.

The Pirate girls improved to 13-7 overall and 5-1 in NWC play with the comeback 19-25, 25-17, 20-25, 25-21, 15-10 victory. It was their last regular season home match of the season.

Lincolnview fell to 11-6 and 3-2 in the NWC after the road defeat.

Karlie Lora led Bluffton with a season-high 19 kills. Libby Hocanson knocked down a dozen kills, and Kendall Stackhouse smacked 11.

Beats Grove in showdown to win league

CORRECTED VERSION / BLUFFTON – The Bluffton High School girls soccer team beat visiting rival Columbus Grove 2-1 in a battle of league unbeatens to capture the Northwest Conference championship at Steinmetz Field and punctuate Pirate Senior Night on Tuesday, September 30.

BLUFFTON__The Bluffton High School boys soccer team swamped visiting Lincolnview 6-0 in a Northwest Conference match on Senior Night at Steinmetz Field on Monday, September 29.

First-place Bluffton improved to 4-8-3 overall and 3-0 in NWC play with the convincing victory. The Pirates are still on course to repeat as league champions again after the lopsided victory.

Lincolnview fell to 2-8-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the NWC after the defeat.

Bluffton scored first in the 20th minute on a Lincolnview own goal.

KENTON__The visiting Bluffton High School girls tennis team defeated Kenton 3-2 in a dual match on Monday, September 29.

Bluffton improved to 6-12 after the road win. Kenton fell to 2-12 with the defeat.

Pirate senior Hannah Nieman won at first singles 6-0, 6-1 over Wildcat sophomore Amanda Van Horn.

Bluffton junior Ari Bowling fell 6-2, 6-2 at second singles to Wildcat junior Presley Wilson.

Pirate senior Claire Blackburn lost at third singles to McKenna Stanforth 6-3, 6-4.

League finale is October 2 at Spencerville

HAMLER__The visiting Bluffton High School volleyball team lost in three sets to Patrick Henry in a match pitting non-conference powers on Monday, September 29.

The Pirate girls fell to 12-7 overall with the 25-16, 25-14, 25-22 defeat.

Patrick Henry improved to 14-2 after the win.

Kendall Stackhouse topped the Pirates with seven kills. Lainey Grandey and Libby Hocanson knocked down five kills apiece.

A Saturday night NWC showdown

LIMA – The Bluffton High School football team lost a Northwest Conference showdown of unbeaten powers 31-21 to Lima Central Catholic in Spartan Stadium on Saturday night, September 27.

Both state-ranked rivals came into the game 5-0 overall and 2-0 in NWC play. After the big win, LCC (6-0) is now tied for first place in the league at 3-0 with Crestview and Columbus Grove.
