A strong St. Marys team put an end to the record-breaking winning streak of the Bluffton High School girls tennis team Monday, scoring a 4-1 decision over the visitors.
The Roughrider girls, an upper division team in the Western Buckeye League, ran their record to 11-4 by taking two of the three singles matches and both doubles events. BHS is now 10-2 after its 10-match victory skein ended.
With 1,079 yards of total offense, and 92 points scored, of course the game would be sealed on a defensive play. And of course after having the second best game in Bluffton history in the air, quarterback Hunter Joseph's final throw would be a heart breaking interception.
Joseph finished the night with 440 yards passing on 28 of 46 passes completed with 6 touchdowns. That's a night any quarterback will take, but it's his 2nd interception on the final drive for Bluffton that ended the game and their hopes of pulling off the upset.
The Lady Pirates traveled to Van Buren for a match up with the Black Knights. A black night it was for the pirates as VB's speed was too much and beat them 5-0. The Pirates have another chance Monday when they meet LCC and Tuesday when they are on the road again against Upper Sandusky.
The Bluffton Beavers lost a nail-biting five-set match against the Lions of Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011 (25-17, 18-25, 22-25, 27-25, 19-17).
