BLUFFTON - The Bluffton girls tennis earned its first win of the season with a 4-1 victory over Kenton Thursday night.

The convincing triumph lifted the Lady Pirate record to 1-2. All four Pirate wins came in straight sets.

Senior Olivia Barnes whipped Katie Sturgeon of Kenton 6-0, 6-0 at second singles. 

Senior Pearl Lewandowski also won handily at third singles over Emma Mulligan by a 6-2, 6-0 count.

Juniors Ellie Nickel and Libby Frazier teamed up to win at first singles 6-4, 6-0.

Will enter executive session to discuss hiring

Bluffton school board puts final touches on the start of the 2020-21 school year at its meeting on Monday. The agenda also includes a planned executive session to discuss employment of personnel.

Two resignation and several new classified employee hirings is on the agenda. Cheryl Morris and Leisa Stratton announced their resignations.

Bluffton Family Recreation is busy concluding summer programming while getting ready for the fall. Here's what coming:

Club BFR
This after-school program is for 5 to 12-year-olds and takes place from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Busing from the elementary to BFR is part of the program. The cost is $40 for members and $80 for non-members. A youth’s one-month membership is $20.

More Allen County residents have been doing their part to help stop the spread of COVID-1

Governor Mike DeWine announced Thursday, August 13, that Allen County has moved to Orange Level 2 Alert. Allen County currently meets the following two indicators:

•  New cases per capita (over 50/100,000)
•  Proportion of cases not in a congregate setting

In addition to the indicators Allen County’s per capita case rate dropped to 96.73 cases/100,000, below the benchmark of 100/100,000 that kept Allen County in Red Level 3 Alert last week.
