With one exception, it will be a quiet local election on Tuesday. The exception facing Bluffton and Richland Township voters is a two-person race for township fiscal officer.
In that race, two candidates (one will be elected) for the fiscal officer position are:
• Trisha Nieman, whose name will be on the ballot, and
• Neil J. Reichenbach, who is a write-in candidate.
Members of the Bluffton Senior Citizens Association will start creating this season’s batch of Bluffton’s favorite holiday candy at 8 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, at the Senior Center, according to Tonya Meyer, director.
“Each Monday in November we create nearly 150 pounds of peanut brittle,” said Meyer. “It takes many volunteers to make this happen. We always invite new volunteers to join us.”
Meyer said that the division of work is simple: men stir and women knead and spread the candy on cooling sheets.
During the last 12 months, the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC) has welcomed 14 new members.
“Great networking and communication opportunities are our number one attraction and, in turn, our members provide fantastic support for our events and programs,” said Paula Scott, Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce CEO.
“And while the majority of our members are based in Bluffton, we have very active members from other communities including Arlington, Findlay, Lima, Ottawa and Pandora.”

COLUMBUS GROVE - The visiting Bluffton football team lost at league co-champion Columbus Grove 49-0 in the Northwest Conference and regular season finale on a cold Friday night.
Strong-armed CG junior quarterback Blake Reynolds passed for six touchdowns, four to wideout Alex Schneider, to pace the Bulldog offense to victory.
Grove scored 14 points in each of the first three periods to win going away. The tough CG defense posted its second straight shutout and gave up just 80 points in seven league contests.
The Bluffton University football team traveled to Manchester University on Saturday, for a Heartland Conference clash.
The Beaver defense only allowed 14 points to the Spartans and shut them out the entire second half to secure their second straight victory, 26-14. Bluffton improves to 2-6 overall and 2-3 in Heartland Conference play, while Manchester fell to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the HCAC.
During a live demonstration on how to compose a song digitally, Grammy nominated singer, songwriter and producer Kendall Nesbitt highlighted the vast capabilities of Bluffton University’s new digital music lab, which opened Oct. 25 in Mosiman Hall.
“We’re really excited about this lab. It’s not something every school has,” said Dr. Crystal Sellers Battle, chair of the music department. “This is a way for Bluffton to differentiate itself.”
