Hand, foot and mouth disease is a common disease among children, especially for those under 5 years of age.

Outbreaks of this disease in Ohio often happen during the summer and fall. It is most commonly caused by Coxsaskieviruses, which causes painful blisters in the mouth and throat as well as blister rashes on the hands, feet and diaper area. The virus is spread by the close contact, cough, nasal or oral secretions, and/or stool from infected persons.

Bluffton Lions Club president, Dr. Christina Walton, recently donated 100 books for the Ohio Lions Action Project. The books will be distributd  to six children's hospitals around Ohio following the USA/Canada Lions Forum.

Maple Crest Senior Living Village, 700 Maple Crest Court, Bluffton, will hold a fishing derby during Fall Festival, Saturday, Sept. 22 from 2-3 p.m. 

The event will take place at Maple Crest pond and is free and open to the public.  Bait and poles will be provided.

Earlier this week, six, 2 lb. tagged bass were released into the pond. Anyone who catches a tagged fish will win a bag of Shirley’s Popcorn. 

Other events taking place at Maple Crest on Saturday include an antique tractor display, kiddie tractor pull, live music and food for sale.

he Bluffton Schools will hold a district-wide open house on Monday, Sept. 24. 
• elementary school from 6 – 7 p.m.,
• middle school from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., 
• thigh school from 7 – 8 p.m.

Several community organizations will have booths set-up in the elementary gymnasium and information will be available on ways to provide support to the school and community.

All parents and community members are invited to this open house event to meet staff members, observe facilities, and learn more about the educational opportunities available to Bluffton students.

The Bluffton High School guidance office will hold a financial aid meeting for parents and students of juniors and seniors planning to continue their education beyond high school.

The meeting is in the high school library, at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 3 Phil Birkey, financial aid director at ONU, is the speaker. He will discuss financial aid and filing the FAFSA form.

 The Bluffton University men's soccer team fell to Adrian College by a 3-0 count on a hot Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018. The Bulldogs evened their mark at 3-3, while Bluffton fell to 1-6 on the season.

The Beavers trailed just 1-0 at the break, but Adrian tacked on two goals in the second stanza for a 3-0 shutout at the Sears Complex.
