It’s a photograph of the "floating" pool that served swimmers in Bluffton as early as the mid-to-late 1920s (based upon the style of swim suit in the photo) to the early 1950s.
It was constructed on the east bank of the Buckeye and then was moved to the quarry where it floated to allow swimming.
Evelyn Kay Treen, 72, of Bluffton, died at 9:06 a.m., Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Mercy-St. Rita’s Medical Center. She was born Sept. 21, 1945, in Lima, to Raymond G. and Dolores Dorothy “Dee” (Daniels) Ribley who preceded her in death. She was previously married to Carl R. Treen who survives.

The Bluffton University Board of Trustees recognized three outgoing board members, welcomed two new members and approved a newly endowed scholarship during the trustees’ spring meeting in June.
David Baumgartner ’82, of Berne Ind., was commended for serving 22 years as a trustee. Appointed to the board in 1996, Baumgartner served the maximum 12 years as a representative of Central District Conference of Mennonite Church USA. He has served as an at-large appointee of the board since 2008.
