The Bluffton Icon is offering a National Football League weekly contest starting this week. It replaces the high school football contest that ended on Friday. The NFL contest will continue all the way to the Super Bowl.
The college football contest will continue until the end of the regular college season. A college bowl contest will replace it in December.
Peter Suter of Shirley's Gourmet Popcorn, 117 S. Main St., announced that "Black Forrest" and "Bluffton Icon" are Shirley's popcorn flavors of the month for November. Store hours are Thursdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fridays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Shirley's website is shirleyspopcorn.com.
Joyce Suter and Scott Gleason tied as winners of the final regular season Icon high school weekly football contest. Andy Borgelt was eliminated in tie-breaker.
Mike Burris was the clear overall season winner in this year's contest. The cummulative records follow the weekly records below. Corey Greer was the judge of the high school contest.
Bluffton University finished in a five-way tie for first place in the HCAC. Hanover, Mount St. Joseph, Bluffton, Transylvania and Rose-Hulman all went 7-2 in the conference.
The tie-breaking procedures placed the five teams in the order above. As the #3 seed, Bluffton will face #6 seed and long-time rival Defiance College at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, in Founders Hall, a rematch from this past Wednesday night.
The winner of that contest will face #2 seed Mount St. Joseph at Hanover College on Saturday, Nov. 5 (5 p.m.).
