Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC) board member Derek Dukes has served the 501(c)(6) organization for the past eight years, a term he wrapped up by hosting a chamber breakfast at Southgate Lanes, 9700 N. Dixie Hwy. on December 10.
The bowling alley co-owner talked about his vision for Bluffton area shops and restaurants, where all work together to promote each other’s businesses. He also reviewed the past five years of fundraising events he has co-hosted with Brandon Falk to benefit the community. Events include: Mission Possible benefit for students in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, Battle of the Businesses bowling tournament, Food Pantry fundraisers, cancer victim fundraisers and multiple years of the Barley Memorial/Southgate Open golf tournament. A total of $35,000 has been raised for the Bluffton area community at Southgate Lanes events during this period.
Larry Thurman Ousley, 72, passed away December 13, 2021 at Lima Memorial Health System. Larry was born March 15, 1949 in Hippo, Kentucky to the late Raleigh and Trilbie (Lafferty) Ousley. On July 24, 1976 he married Nadine Leiber Ousley.
Robert Setzer, 89, Bluffton passed away December 10, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family. Robert was born on July 19, 1932 in Willoughby, Ohio to the late Carl and Pearl (Haskell) Setzer. On November 8, 1952 he married Bonita Jean (Holder) Setzer.
Robert was a draftsman in Fort Knox Kentucky and following his honorable discharge from the United States Army he went to work for Ohio Rubber. In 1974 he became the sales manager for Buckeye Rubber in Lima, Ohio.
Bluffton Family Recreation is taking registrations for school break camps that take place during December 22-30. Kids ages 5-12 have the opportunity to join two themed camps: Show Us Your Talent and Hobbies & Games.
Camp hours are 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Before care is available beginning at 7:30 a.m. After care is available until 5:30p.m.
Registration is available for single days during these camps.
Bluffton Elementary principal "Mr. T," Ben Thiel, has announced that classes will be recorded performing Christmas music, with links sent by teachers and in future newsletters.
Hometown Stations will be airing videos of students singing or playing Christmas songs on Christmas morning from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Theis will send Bluffton student performances to the station for this program.
