The Bluffton 4-H Cattle Club reported its results from the 2021 Allen County Fair. Those results follow.

Bluffton Cattle Club had another great year at the 2021 Allen County Fair. This year our Cloverbuds (Annie Steiner, Bentley Webb, Bennett Kimmel, Brock Sloan, Brice Sehlhorst, Kyle Hohenbrink, Kaidree Hohenbrink, Addi Barrett, and Lydia Gratz) successfully grew pumpkins from seed and completed an art project to display at the fair. Our 4-H youth were involved with various animal and special interest projects. Their results are below:

A Music in the Alley performance will be hosted from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15 next to Roots by Strattons, 111 S Main.

Wendy Chappell-Dick and Phil Gratz will perform. The duo has been playing together for almost 30 years. They enjoy songs with meaningful lyrics and they also have fun, covering pop tunes from the '70s to present day. Their music is guitar driven, with percussion and plenty of harmony.

This is the final Music in the Alley event of the season. Guests are invited to bring a friend, chair, and grab a bite at one of Bluffton's eateries.

Members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 North Main Street, Jenera, will observe the annual Shipwreck Remembrance on Sunday, September 19. The services, at 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. will give praise to the Lord for saving the lives of passengers on the “Famous Dove” when it was shipwrecked off the east coast of the United States on September 17, 1831. Many of the passengers coming from Germany were the founders of Trinity and many descendants are members today.

Family recipes give special meaning to the phrase “living history.” The following Dilly Bread recipe comes from Kaye Phillips of the Swiss Community Historical Society (SwissHistorical.org). While a similar recipe was made famous in 1960 as a winning Pillsbury Bake-Off entry, this version of a yeasted, cottage cheese-based bread has distinctly local roots. Kaye explains:

Baking Dilly Bread can give your home the aroma of years gone by. The flavor and versatility makes this recipe a favorite in our family.
