FDA approves Spravato (esketamine) to treat major depressive disorder

Spravato (esketamine) is considered the first big advancement in depression treatment since the approval of Prozac — and it just got approved for a new use.

Approved for treatment-resistant depression (TRD) in March of 2019, esketamine is now approved to treat depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) and acute suicidal ideation or behavior.

Today Governor DeWine shared updated data on the percentage of cases in Ohio by age group. The data shows a significant increase in positive cases among younger adults over the summer, particularly in the age range of 20-29. 

As of Friday afternoon, there are 106,557 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in Ohio and 3,784 confirmed and probable COVID-19 deaths. A total of 12,128 people have been hospitalized, including 2,755 admissions to intensive care units. In-depth data can be accessed by visiting coronavirus.ohio.gov.

Pirate linksters win NWC quad

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton golf team won a four-team Northwest Conference match Thursday at the Bluffton Golf Course.

The co-host Pirates won with 175 strokes, followed by Columbus Grove (184), Crestview (203) and Ada (211).

Bluffton improved to 3-0 in the NWC with the wins.

Kenny Lovett of Bluffton was match medalist with a 39.

Micah Minnig shot 42, followed by Wes Brauen (45) and Jaden Confare (49) as the other Pirate scorers.

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton girls tennis earned its first win of the season with a 4-1 victory over Kenton Thursday night.

The convincing triumph lifted the Lady Pirate record to 1-2. All four Pirate wins came in straight sets.

Senior Olivia Barnes whipped Katie Sturgeon of Kenton 6-0, 6-0 at second singles. 

Senior Pearl Lewandowski also won handily at third singles over Emma Mulligan by a 6-2, 6-0 count.

Juniors Ellie Nickel and Libby Frazier teamed up to win at first singles 6-4, 6-0.

Will enter executive session to discuss hiring

Bluffton school board puts final touches on the start of the 2020-21 school year at its meeting on Monday. The agenda also includes a planned executive session to discuss employment of personnel.

Two resignation and several new classified employee hirings is on the agenda. Cheryl Morris and Leisa Stratton announced their resignations.
