Carolyn Emma Woodward-Early, 79, formerly of Jenera, died on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Home in Arlington, Ohio.

Carolyn was born on Nov. 4, 1938 in rural Jenera to Harley and Doris (Schaller) Spaeth. She married Larry W. Woodward on December 10, 1960 and he died on Dec. 23, 1992. On Nov. 4, 1995 she married Lloyd W. Early, who died on December 15, 2015.

Will replace EMS vehicle with 20+ years of service

Bluffton EMS will answer calls in a new ambulance by next year at this time.

Council’s safety services committee recommended to council and was approved to begin the bidding process for a new ambulance. Its estimated cost is $175,498. When it is in service it replaces an ambulances that served the community for over 20 years.

The ambulance purchase was approved at the Feb. 12 council meeting, following a recommendation from the safety service committee meeting on Jan. 24.

Several additional items were on the Jan. 24 committee agenda:

Bluffton Family Recreation hosted its first home school recreation class on Friday. The class is offered to home school families each Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. for the next six weeks and is for students Kindergarten age and older. Call BFR at 419-358-4150 for details.

Infant Swimming Resources (ISR) at Maple Crest pool

Maple Crest Senior Living Village is providing its indoor pool to Infant Swimming Resource (ISR), a program for children six months to six years old to learn Self-Rescue skills. 

Certified instructor Annette Lazenby, along with her ISR partner Kym Cragel, will be teaching ISR lessons beginning April 9. 

Lazenby became a certified ISR instructor in 2017 after completing an intensive training program that included hands-on training with an ISR master instructor.

Bluffton High School spring sports schedules were released this week by Alex Hanna, athletic director.

St. John Mennonite Church March 17-18

St. John Mennonite Church mission festival March 17 and 18 features Dan Wolgemuth, president of Youth for Christ-USA.

Wolgemuth will share about the ministry of Youth for Christ. In addition, other area mission organizations will be represented.

The weekend schedule follows:
• Saturday, March 17 - Men’s and women’s breakfast, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., in the church gymnasium.
• Sunday, March 18 – 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. service
