Deadline to register is March 18 at BFR

Bluffton Family Recreation is accepting registrations for a fourth, fifth and sixth grade girls' volleyball league this spring, according to Amy Byers, sports director.

Registrations are due by Sunday, March 18. League play takes place on Saturdays from April 7 through May 12.

Cost is $30 for BFR members and $60 for non-members. Register on line at www.bfronline.com.

Allen County Public Health reminds the community that it is not too late to get a flu shot to help prevent the spread of the flu virus.

ACPH has flu vaccine available at no charge for children and adults who have no insurance. There is an administration fee, but no one will be turned away for their inability to pay.

Flu shots are available at Allen County Public Health on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 – 9 a.m., and from 3 – 4 p.m. while supplies last.

Julian Harnish will perform a preview of his senior college piano recital at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, in the First Mennonite Church sanctuary.

He will perform works by Bach, Brahms, Beethoven, Debussy and Kapustin.

Harnish, a Bluffton High School graduate, is a senior at Goshen College Indiana, where he is majoring in math and music.

He is the son of Monica and Steve Harnish, Bluffton. First Mennonite Church is located at 101 S. Jackson St., Bluffton.

Wednesday, Feb. 14, marks the beginning of the Christian season of Lent. Several local congregations will hold Ash Wednesday services. The imposition of ashes will be offered as well as communion.That list follows:

• English Lutheran Church, 7 p.m.
• First Mennonite Church, 8 p.m.
• St. John's and Emmanual United Church of Christ
   (service at Emmanuel's UCC, 6 p.m.)
• St. Mary's Catholic Church, noon
• Trinity Lutheran, Jenera, 7 p.m.

 

 

Icon viewers interested in developing a winter workout routine can get help from Bluffton Family Recreation.

Matt Wannemacher, personal trainer, is available for BFR members in a free consultant basis to help develop a workout plan.

“We will talk about each individual’s goals, where the person is at the moment exercise-wise, and where the person wants to be,” he said.

The workout plan will help the BFR member get started. Wannemacher, a BFR staff member, is always available to answer questions.
