Last three to four years interest in swimming as a sports has exploded

The 2017 Bluffton Sardines are swimming off to a great start. And there are a lot of them, 150 to be exact. This is an increase from last year’s team of 138.

 “In the last three to four years the interest in swimming as a sport in Bluffton has just exploded,” said Jennie Wilson, president of the Bluffton Sardines swim club. “The Western Ohio Aquatics League (WOAL) is fun and competitive and allows for swimmers of all skill levels to participate.”

June 22 on the Bluffton University campus

A group of blacksmiths coming to northwest Ohio later this month will “beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.”  Or, lacking swords and spears, they will be forging garden tools out of firearms.
 
The blacksmiths are part of RAWtools, a non-profit organization based in Colorado that uses performance art to illustrate the vision of biblical prophet Isaiah who penned those words, and to encourage conversation about what it means in modern society.
 

Morning camp for youth ages 6-12

Bluffton Family Recreation is taking registrations for Laffalot Camp scheduled for Monday through Friday, July 10-14, according to Joseph Beagle, BFR director.

Laffalot Summer Camp offers youth ages 6 to 12 a week of fun-filled activities. Camp is held from 9 a.m. to noon.

Led by well-trained counselors, campers will spend the day playing high-energy sports and games that help them:

• Develop teamwork

• Build whole body coordination

• Learn sportsmanship

This year’s third annual Ride to Remember (Saturday, July 8) offers routes for the novice, families with young children, intermediate routes and, believe it or not, 112 mile route.

Why group piano for children?

Group piano offers a fantastic opportunity to be involved in music-making that develops overall musicianship while learning basic piano skills, according to Vicki Mills of Miss Vicki's Music Studio, Ada.

She adds: "7 and 8 year olds love to sing, move, create, and play... all aspects of a group piano setting that capitalizes on the sense of joy experienced in a social situation while learning how to move those fingers on a piano in a meaningful way!"
