Matt Lora of Bluffton and Shawnee High School math teacher, was named Shawnee Optimist Club’s Educator of the Year.

Lora of 167 Hillcrest Dr., Bluffton, says that his ability to be a good educator comes from the environment he works in.

"It's been an awesome time at Shawnee High School; I've been surrounded by really good people in the math department, we're all very close and we're not afraid to share our materials with each other - it's just been a great time," Lora said.

A group of local artists and church workers are asking for donations of guns for a blacksmith demonstration, which will forge weapons into garden tools Thursday, June 22, at Bluffton University.

The demonstration is part of Central District Conference, Mennonite Church USA, annual meeting, held on campus.

Need a good book or two or three for summer reading?

The Bluffton Friends of the Library hold its spring used book sale at the library later this week. The sale runs from 5 p.m., Wednesday, May 10, through 1 p.m., Saturday, May 13. Books are on sale in the library's lower level.

All proceeds from the book sale go to support library programs such as summer read, children's read, staff education and assisting in equipment purchase. 

Garrett Kisseberth, a Cory-Rawson senior, is one of 11 high school studenets awarded a college scholarship from the District 8 Fellowship of Christian Athletes,
 WTLW TV-44, and Store & Haul, Inc.

Kissabether will receive a $500 scholarship for his future educational plans.

The Bluffton Athletic Boosters just concluded their annual Reverse Raffle and would like to take a moment to thank all that contributed to its success.  Many individuals and businesses made this year’s raffle another huge success.
