Dr. Paul Neufeld Weaver, director of cross-cultural programs and associate professor of education, will present the colloquium “Language, Culture and Power: Bilingual Education and Cultural Survival in Guatemala.”
Neufeld Weaver will speak about research conducted during his sabbatical last spring in Guatemala. His research focused on bilingual education in Guatemala, specifically, the ways in which native Mayan languages are used in schools in Guatemala.
United Way of Bluffton, Beaverdam and Richland Township launched its 2016-17 campaign with a goal of $26,000 to be reached by Aug. 31, 2017.
Area postal patrons received 2016-17campaign material in the mail this week. Donors have an option of designating support to specific organizations or making one donation that the United Way board allocates.
Bluffton's Parkview Development landscape changes daily. The new housing development will be constructed in three phases by Three S Development Group. After days of rain and a sloppy field, it was easy to predict that Delphos Jefferson would run the ball extensively Friday against Bluffton. But the dominance of their offensive attack was a surprise as the Wildcats soundly defeated the Pirates 33-3, holding BHS to just 43 yards of total offense. Delphos improved to 5-1 (3-0 NWC) on the season, Bluffton fell to 3-3 (1-2).
Tonya Meyer, Bluffton Senior Citizens Center director, reminds persons 65 and older that Medicare open enrollment period takes place from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7.
"It is a good idea to take another look at your plans if you have had any health changes," she said. The Allen County Council of Aging can also assist with questions.
