Bluffton High School graduate David Hooley knew education was important, but not until he taught in Kenya did he really see the impact of his work.
He recently completed a one-year Serving and Learning Together (SALT) assignment with Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) in Songhor, Kenya, where he taught physics and math to students at Songhor Secondary School.
Bluffton schools summer district newsletter was mailed to district residents eariler this week. The following includes some of the information provided in the supertendent's column. The entire column is in the newsletter attached at the bottom.
On Monday, Aug. 29, we will welcome over 1,200 students into our district. This will be our largest enrollment since 2002-2003 school year.
Three boys in the summer school-age class at Bluffton Child Development Center focus on some computer games. Soon, summer will be over and these boys and many of their friends will be back in the classroom.
The second annual Bright Pink 5K and family fun run takes place in Ada during Ohio Northern’s Family Day on Saturday, Sept. 17. The race starts at 3 p.m., according to Carley Strzalka.
The event begins with registration at 2:15 p.m. at the ONU Pavillion. The race is held on The Green Monster on the ONU campus.
Registration is $15, which includes a t-shirt and raffle ticket. Participants must register by Sept. 1 for a guaranteed t-shirt. The $15 fee is waived for youth under 10 who are with a participating parent or guardian.
Interested in visiting the Holmes County Amish area?
The Bluffton Senior Citizens Association has a trip with Bob and Bev planned in September. Registration is now underway.
On Friday, Sept. 16, Bob and Bev Painter will take the Association bus to Holmes County. Departure from Bluffton is at 7:30 a.m.
Stops include The Farm at Walnut Creek via horse and wagon. Participants will visit a couple typical Amish homes. Next is an Amish dinner theatre. It includes an Amish buffet and a comedy titled “Somewhere over the silo." Cost is $86 per person.
BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton University has named Adam Craig as head golf coach. Craig will be responsible for setting up the men’s and women’s program as well as recruiting during the 2016-17 academic year with team competition to begin the following year.
