Julie Burstein, a Peabody Award-winning radio producer, best-selling author and TED speaker will be the featured speaker at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, in the Sommer Center for Health and Fitness Education, as Bluffton welcomes the class of 2020 at its annual Opening Convocation.

The Icon looks over the shoulder of Oliver Romick, Bluffton High School marching band member, in a percussion sectional. Oliver plays the quints - that's five drums - in the band. Marching band rehearsals are this week. At 7 p.m. on Friday the band performs in the Allen County marching band show at the Allen County Fair. There's a second photo of Oliver below this one.

This fall, Bluffton Family Recreation offers performance training for athletes ages 12 to 18.

Programs of four sessions each are available lead by Matt Gillett.

A Developmental Program, for youth ages 12 to 14, offers an introduction to performance training and adds a sport-specific component.

A Prep Program, for youth ages 15 to 18, offers a high-performance training program covering all aspects of athletic performance.

The Bluffton University volleyball team is set to begin its 2016 season under Head Coach Steve Yarnell. The Beavers went 19-13 and 8-1 in the HCAC en route to a third straight HCAC Tournament championship. Bluffton will work to keep their NCAA tournament run alive by qualifying for a four consecutive appearance as well as the eighth time in program history. Bluffton’s run of post-season success and returning All-HCAC performers has the Beavers second in the HCAC preseason poll.
