Don't mess with the Bluffton Sardines swim team. They finished the 2014 swim season with an impressive fourth place in the eight-team Western Ohio Aquatics League meet held in Kenton on Friday and Saturday.

Ahead of Bluffton were three very tough swim teams that have several swimmers competing year around.

Here's how they finished:

Maybe Marlin Gerber is the Johnny Appleseed of blueberries. Leduc, Michigan, blueberries to be specific.

Bluffton likes blueberries and Marlin Gerber feeds our appetites for the tiny summer berry.

Who is Marlin anyway and why does he come to Bluffton with blueberries?

Originally from Sugarcreek, he enrolled at Bluffton College in 1953. He took off a couple years to volunteer in PAX. Then he returned to graduate in 1960.

The Bluffton Community Swimming Pool's season is at its mid-way point. That means that season passes are half-price starting Sunday, July 13.

Here are those prices:

Family pass $65
Single pass $40
Senior single $20
Senior couple $37.50
College student $20

Make checks payable to Village of Bluffton.

A benefit for Angie Palte is planned from 1 to 10 p.m., Saturday, July 19, at Springfield Fireworks, 490 State Route 103, Bluffton. Friends and family members plan the benefit.

• 2 p.m. Philosoraptors
• 5 p.m. Sunday’s Regret
• 8 p.m. Two Dragons
