Bluffton Lions will hold five sight screenings in September. Screenings take place between Sept. 9 and 17. They are held at:

• Bluffton Day Care Center
• Allen East grade school
• Hilty Home Day Care, Pandora
• Bluffton Community Pre-School (two times)

Bluffton's girls' soccer team improved to 2-1 with a 7-0 win over Ada on Aug. 27 at Steinmetz Field.

Bluffton dominated the game by scoring six goals in the first half. The Ada defense pushed forward in the second half holding the pirates to one goal in the second half.

Two movies starting Friday August 30 and playing through Thursday, August 5 at the Shannon Theatre.

SMURFS 2 (PG) will be showing every evening at 7 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday matinees at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.

ELYSIUM (R) will be showing every evening at 9:30 p.m.

Lorene Cary’s 1972 introduction to a prestigious New England prep school was similar in some ways to the Aug. 27 welcome afforded first-year Bluffton University students, the author told the students at Bluffton’s opening convocation that morning.

At the same time, though, it was very different.

BFR begins its 35th year of recreational programming this fall, according to Carole Enneking, director.

BFR offers fitness options, sport conditioning and development programs, plus leagues for adult and youth.  BFR Sports & Fitness was established in 1978 as a non-profit organization that would provide a variety of activities, classes and leagues for the Bluffton area.

There's a new warning sign in town. It alerts drivers on Augsburger Road that persons cross the road from Willow Ridge to Maple Crest. The signs were installed recently by the village.
