Back by popular demand, the Bluffton Icon launches "Iconic Bakery." In it we hope to provide recipes sent by Icon viewers.

Here's how it works:

Marcene Spangler checks the blood pressure of Tonya Meyer during the monthly free blood pressure clinic at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center. The clinic takes place on the first Wednesday of each month at the Center.

 

The U.S. Small Business Administration and its partners are hosting a series of free small business seminars designed for minority and women business owners.  This initiative is a broad effort to strengthen and expand business ownership among these two groups. 

The Small Business Development Series will help small and minority businesses to access resources that can help them grow and enhance their entrepreneurial skills.

Bluffton University Research Center grants are helping four Bluffton faculty members pursue scholarly and creative projects in their respective fields this summer.

Recipients of $3,000 stipends and up to $600 for research expenses are Dr. Rudi Kauffman, an assistant professor of restorative justice; Dr. Jonathan Andreas, an assistant professor of economics; Dr. Martina Cucchiara, an assistant professor of history; and Dr. Stephen Harnish, a professor of mathematics.

Jeanne's Kitchen, 112 Vine St., Bluffton, has two special evening dinners planned this month, according to Jeanne Previte.

FRIDAY DINNER for July 12
Friday night dinner will be a homemade southern-style meal. We will have appetizers, 7-layer salad, southern potatoes, honey glazed pork chops or fresh fish and homemade dessert. Gluten-free options are available.

A two-day jazz camp at Bluffton University will conclude with a concert by participating sixth through eighth graders at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 25, in Yoder Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

Directing the camp and the concert are Paul Baransy, an adjunct music instructor at Bluffton, and Charles Doepker. The Ottawa residents have extensive experience as jazz performers and teachers, including, most recently, as directors of the Ohio Music Education Association District 3 Junior High Honors Jazz Ensemble.
