James W. Gay, 78 died at 3:10 a.m. June 13, 2013, at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton. He was born Sept. 3, 1934 in Lima to the late William J. and Nellie (Hariff) Gay. 

On Nov. 10, 1956 he married Dorothy Lou Rice and she survives.

Mr. Gay retired from Bluffton Precast and then worked at Wal-Mart, Lima. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Ashley B. Fields, daughter of Robert Fields, Bluffton, and Amie Stratton also of Bluffton, recently graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences at Ohio Northern University.  She received the Bachelor of Science in nursing.

On campus, Fields was active in the ONU chapter of the National Student Nursing Association. Fields is a graduate of Bluffton High School.

On Saturday, this Bluffton 11-13 year old fastpitch softball team took first place in the Tri-County Tournament.  They also took first place in the Tri-County Fastpitch League going undefeated this season.

Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) associate Barbara Plaugher received the Ohio Hospital Association (OHA) Albert E. Dyckes Health Care Worker of the Year Award at the annual OHA Recognition Dinner held June 11. Earlier this year she was named Blanchard Valley Health Systems Associate of the Year.

It’s that time of year to cool off in the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool. Here’s some quick facts about the pool, swim lessons, special closing dates and benefits for season pass holders.

Pool Hours:
Mondays to Fridays – 1 to 8 p.m.
Saturdays and Sundays – 1 to 8 p.m.

Registration for swim lessons is underway now. The lesson schedules follows:

Session I
June 17-28
11:15 to 11:45 a.m.

Session II
July 8-July 19
11:15-11:45 a.m.
