Hey, there's a Pirate on your tie!

Did you notice Mr. Closson's Pirate tie on the first day of school? Andrew Raeburn did. He checked out the tie before entering school yesterday.

Peter Suter of Shannon Theatre announced that "The Help" (PG-13) is showing at the theatre from September 2 to September 8.

Show times follow:
Each evening at 7 and 9:30 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 1:30 and 4 p.m.

Peter Suter of Shirley's Gourmet Popcorn, 117 S. Main St., announced that "Caramel Apple" is Shirley's popcorn flavor of the month for September. Store hours are Thursdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Shirley's website is shirleyspopcorn.com.

Deogratias ^aEURoeDeo^aEUR

The East African country that Deogratias "Deo" Niyizonkiza once fled for his life has now honored its native son with a presidential visit to the health care center he returned to found.

Pierre Nkurunkiza, president of Burundi, traveled to Village Health Works Aug. 20 with U.S. Ambassador Pamela Slutz for a tour that included placement of the cornerstone for a planned women's health pavilion at the site.

A group of parishioners from St. Mary's Catholic Church recently returned from a mission trip to Booneville, Kentucky.

According to Sister Carol Inkrott, "Booneville is in Owsley County, which is the third poorest county in the U.S. During our trip we cleaned, painted and repaired houses for some of the residents."

The Ohio Northern University Astronomy Club invites ONU students, faculty and staff, as well as Ada and the surrounding communities, to an astronomy event at the ONU Observatory on Friday, Sept. 2, from 9-11 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

A short presentation on supernovas will take place around 9:45 p.m. A supernova is a rare event in which a star explodes. Light from the explosion rises over a week's time and then slowly fades over a period of months.
