The Bluffton Shuffleboard Club is ready for the 2011 season. The opening event is the Mildred and Clarence Brunn Doubles event planned Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 26-28, at the Bluffton courts. The courts at the Buckeye park.

The club, established in 1994, plays Mondays and Saturdays at 10 a.m. and Thursdays at 5 p.m. Persons from the community interested in learning to play shuffleboard are encouraged to join the club.

Rudi Steiner, Icon columnist-in-residence, provided the following column in anticipation of the Bluffton High School class of 1961 50th reunion in July. It was recently e-mailed to members of the class. Rudi now of Homewood, Illinois, is the brother of Fred Steiner of Bluffton.

BFR, 215 Snider Road, announces a Senior Health and Fitness Day Wednesday, May 25, according to Carole Enneking, director.

All events are free and open to seniors ages 55 and older. In addition to programs planned, tours are available at each location.

Events are planned in in five locations.

Sand art was among the popular attractions at Saturday's Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce arts and crafts show.

The Icon spotted this Franklin County plate on Cherry Street during the arts and crafts festival.

The Bluffton Lady Pirates earned their first ever softball District Championship Saturday afternoon at Wapakoneta, as they trounced the McComb Panthers 12-2 in 6 innings. The Pirates advanced to the finals after a 9-5 win over New Bremen on Friday evening.
