Bluffton history comes alive this winter in ILR classes
Bluffton University's Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR), an educational program for retirees, is offering several classes led by local residents on Wednesdays, Jan. 18-Feb. 22, at the Bluffton town hall.
The winter term costs $50, which allows participants to take as many classes as they wish and to join in other ILR activities. The fee is due at the time of registration.
"Sharing Stories of Bluffton's History" will be the theme of 10 a.m. classes.
The schedule follows:
Jan. 18 - Dr. Darrell Groman on "Let's Take a Trip Down Riley Creek"
Jan. 25 - Dr. Darrell Groman on "The Life of Sea Captain and Deputy Surveyor James Riley"
Feb. 1 - Dr. Darrell Groman on "Skeletons on the Sahara"
Feb. 8 - Dennis Morrison on "Artifacts of Bluffton"
Feb. 15 - Fred Steiner will discuss and sign copies of his book, "A Good Place to Miss-Bluffton Stories 1900-1975"
Feb. 22 - singer Wendy Chappell-Dick
Book reviews are scheduled for the 1 p.m. classes each week, concluding Feb. 22 with the perspective of another local author, Judy Clemens, on her own recent work.
Students may also explore "Canals of Yesterday and Today" with Don and Elaine Brubaker and Lynn Miller from 2:15-2:45 p.m. each Wednesday throughout the term.
To register or for more information, contact Janet "J.P." Schumacher, ILR director, at 419-358-3346 or [email protected].
