Bluffton Jazzercise, The Icon's newest advertiser, promises to put you in shape
The Icon's newest advertiser promises to put you in shape. J'aime Stratton launched Bluffton Jazzercise this week with classes offered in English Lutheran Church, 111 Grove St.
Stratton says Jazzercise is just like it sounds: it's a dance fitness program.
"From 35 to 40 minutes of each session involves aerobics," she said. "And from 20 to 25 minutes includes strength and stretching. We use all types of music to the exercises, which are based in jazz dance, but also offer many moves."
The exercise program helps participants interested in weight loss and in improving their health, says Stratton. "It's a great way to work out. It's a well-rounded program. You can come and have fun while exercising. It's available for persons in all levels of exercise experience."
Classes began this week and persons may join classes at any time. At the moment classes are offered Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. More class times are planned.
"Persons may join anytime and may attend as many or as few sessions each week," she said. "The classes are open to anyone, women and men, ages 12 and up. It's a great way for grandmothers, mothers and daughters to exercise together, for example."
With the first week of classes almost complete, Stratton said that 14 persons are already enrolled in classes.
Stratton started Jazzercise as a student while living in Illinois. Within six months she became an instructor and has instructed classes for a year and a half. She is certified through the American Council on Exercise as a group fitness instructor. She also is CPR certified.
The 2001 BHS grad holds a bachelor's degree from Bluffton University. In August of 2010 she obtained a master's of science degree in nutrition and dietetics from Northern Illinois University. She and her husband, David, returned to Bluffton in September, when she became a dietician at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
