Bluffton recognized for highest percentage of middle school Superiors at district science fair
Eight Bluffton middle school students participating at the District Science Fair at Ohio Northern University in late March, according to Dave Bracy, science teacher.
Three students received Excellent scores and five received Superior scores and will move on to the State Science Fair competition on May 5.
Receiving Excellent scores were:
o Katie Frazier: Which type of dance exercise (jazz, barre, modern, none) helps a dancers balance?
o Jared Metzger: Is a vacuum the best way to sound proof a room?
o Misha Groman: Do different brands of fish food give betta fish brighter colors?
Receiving Superior scores were:
o Joel Siefker: Does temperature affect how much energy a wind turbine makes?
o Sam Crisp: Do football gloves increase your ability to catch the ball in wet or dry conditions?
o Sara Bertka: Do people tend to remember information better by hearing or seeing them?
o Brielle Hamilton: Is the accuracy of your serve impacted by the shape of your hand when serving a volleyball?
o Elizabeth Nisly: How does the appearance of food affect your perception of the taste?
In addition Bluffton received a plaque for having the highest percentage of Superiors for Middle School students.
Receiving individual awards were:
o Sam Crisp who took home a District award for Engineering
o Joel Siefker won the Governor's award for Advanced Materials Science Research.
