The Ohio Northern University Department of Communication and Theatre Arts presents Thoroughly Modern Millie at The Freed Center.

The production will run Thursday, April 19 through Saturday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22 at 2 p.m..

Thoroughly Modern Millie was a 2002 Tony Award Winner on Broadway for Best Musical. Thoroughly Modern Millie is a musical with music by Jeanine Tesori, lyrics by Dick Scanlan, and a book by Richard Morris and Scanlan.

Based on the 1967 film of the same name, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of a small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love-a thoroughly modern aim in 1922, when women were just entering the workforce.

Millie soon begins to take delight in the flapper lifestyle, but problems arise when she checks into a hotel owned by the leader of a slavery ring in China. The style of the musical is comic pastiche.

The musical is directed by Brandon Ivie. A Seattle native, Brandon spent four seasons at The 5th Avenue Theatre as Casting Director and Artistic Projects Manager, and recently directed their hit production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella (Seattle Times Footlight Award).

Also at The 5th, he was the associate director for Saving Aimee, Damn Yankees, On the Town, West Side Story and Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story, and directed Adventure Musical Theatre touring productions of Northwest Bookshelf and Rosie the Riveter.

He is artistic director of Contemporary Classics and has directed or produced the Seattle premieres of Zanna, Don't! (Seattle Times Footlight Award), The Yellow Wood, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, John & Jen, The Last Five Years, A New Brain, I Love You Because, tick, tick... BOOM! and The Drowsy Chaperone as well as 12 editions of the popular New Voices songwriter showcase series.

He has worked on Broadway as dramaturg for Catch Me If You Can and assistant to the Pulitzer Prize-winning authors of Next to Normal, Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt. Next he will train with Lincoln Center Theatre's Directing Lab.
