The presentation took place at DTR following a plant tour for students in the Bluffton schools whose family members are DTR associates. In addition, Rep. Jim Jordan and members of his staff, along with village and school officials also toured DTR.
Following the tours, DTR's William Yokas, senior vice president, manufacturing, introduced Bob Young, Toyota vice president of purchasing. Young announced the $15,000 donation to the school district.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Greg Denecker, Bluffton schools superintendent, thanked DTR for its donation and mentioned a list of past contributions Bluffton's largest employer has provided the schools. Among those is an annual $1,000 scholarship given to one BHS graduating senior. The scholarship is available for four years to the student recipient.
Congressman Jordan, who participated in the tour and ceremony, also thanked DTR for its generosity to the community.
Eric Fulcomer, Bluffton mayor, listed several things DTR does for Bluffton that often go unnoticed. He thanked DTR associates for their many contributes to the community.
He added:
o DTR is Bluffton's largest employer and its employees are intertwined with the fabric of the community through involvement with community groups and service on local boards - and many employees came to the aid of others during the recent floods.
o DTR is a supported of community projects - BFR, Safety Pup, Freedom Fest, Bluffton University's Civic Engagement Day, just to name a few.
o Through you don't seek publicity for your acts of community service and goodwill, they do not go unnoticed. We appreciate the contributions you make to our community.
o Pleased that you have chosen to support our local schools through this donation today. As a father of two children in the schools, I am so impressed with our school system - excellent with distinction is an appropriate designation for the Bluffton Exempted Village Schools.
o Thanks again for your generous donation, your ongoing community support, and for allowing me to be a part of this special occasion.
