Doris Dukes 1919-2009
Doris D. Dukes, 90, of Pandora died at 2:30 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009 at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. She was born April 8, 1919 in Wellington, Ohio, to George and Celia Ruth (Jackson) Devereaux. On Dec. 24, 1944 she married Robert G. Dukes and he died May 30, 1974.
Doris taught high school in Bloomfield High School, Bloomfield, Ohio. She had also worked at Cooper Tire, Findlay, during World War II. After taking time off to raise her family she returned to teaching at Cory-Rawson Middle School retiring in 1984.
She was a member of the Pleasant View United Methodist Church, Mt. Cory. She was a member of the Hancock County Genealogical Society, DAR - Fort Findlay, and she enjoyed doing painting, crosswords and was an avid reader.
Doris graduated from Penfield High School in 1937 and Bowling Green State University in 1941 with a degree in home economics/science.
Survivors include two sons Michael Dukes of Pandora, Ohio, and Robert J. Dukes of Mt. Pleasant, North Carolina; a daughter Lou Ellen (Joseph) Tammone of Largo, Florida; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother Harvey Devereaux and a sister Beatrice Preston.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009 at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home, Bluffton. Chaplain Jim Ridge officiating. Burial will be in Dukes Cemetery, Mt. Cory. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hilty Memorial Home or Pleasant View United Methodist Church.
