Letter: I am blessed to volunteer with the Community Assistance Program

I am blessed to volunteer with the Community Assistance Program occasionally and especially during adopt a family. The year 56 families/individuals were adopted. What is special about adopt a family? Each month they come and get about five items and pick out 25 to 30 items in the pantry. They know that most of it is donated, but during adopt a family someone /organization specifically takes care of a family, they make that connection, they know someone cared.
One gentleman stood there looking at his pile. I asked if I could help. He said, "Are you sure this is mine? It is just me. All this is mine?" I double checked and told him yes. He just stood there and stared at it.
Finally he said, "it is just me." I really got the sense that no one had cared for him in a long time and he got it that someone/organization cared for him so much, even not knowing him and yet provided for him in abundance.
I thank God for moments like that, and I want to thank everyone who donated to adopt a family. To thank them for caring, I am blessed to volunteer and just wanted to share how
much it means to the families.
