Keeping Active free programs continue at BFR
The third week of Keeping Active’s free fitness and nutritional programs is underway at BFR Sports & Fitness. The week will include free walking days, plus free exercise classes and demonstrations. These include the following:
The Rethink Your Drink program will be on going from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday
and 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Parents are encouraged to stop by the “Rethink Your Drink” booth in the BFR lobby over the weekend of Feb. 2 - 3. Bluffton University graduate student, Chad Evans will challenge participants to guess how much sugar is in their favorite beverage. Evans, a graduate of Western Michigan University, will also answer questions and provide ideas on how to hydrate for good nutrition as well as healthy weight and energy levels.
Free Family Night will be offered on Friday, Feb. 8 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
As part of the activities, Bluffton University will provide an informational session on “Making Easy Choices for Family Meals.” This presentation will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature ideas and resources for busy families to create new, healthy meals. Also included in Family Night
will be physical challenges for children and adults, as well as group games (dodgeball and kickball).
Free adult fitness options:
Open Adult Tennis from 10:30 a.m. - noon in the BFR gymnasium; and Adult Women’s Basketball from 9 a.m.- 10 p.m. on Wednesday. Free use of the indoor track will be available all day on Tuesday, Feb. 5, Wednesday, Feb. 6, Saturday, Feb. 9 and Sunday Feb. 10.
Several fitness classes will be offered free to current as well as newattendees. The Low Impact Aerobics class, Monday, Feb. 4 from 10 a.m.- 11a.m., is offered
and Cardio Sculpt is offered free on Thurs. Feb. 7 from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m.
The Low Impact Aerobics includes 30 minutes of aerobic activities, plus weight training (using dumbbells while seated), stretching and balance work.
Cardio Sculpt offers a moderate workout combining weights and movement for the aerobic section, and the stability ball and floor work for body toning.
Individuals who are interested in adding more exercise to their daily routine are encouraged to attend the Introduction to Exercise demonstrations on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. or Monday, February 4 at 5:30 p.m. The interactive session will go over the benefits of exercise including warm-up and cool down plus stretching, as well as how to determine what level is appropriate for each individual. BFR staff trainers, Britny Tuttle and Keri Hilty McCoy will lead the programs.

BFR is a private, non-profit organization providing sport and fitness options for all ages. All BFR programs are open to the public; membership is required to use the fitness center,
