Remember the Cherry Street bridge?
This scene may look familar to many Icon viewers. It's the "old" bridge over Riley Creek on Cherry Street. The bridge was replaced in recent years with a two-lane bridge that is built above the flood plain. This view looks east on Cherry. The Farmers' Grain building is still standing.
Notice that the street was not yet paved. The first paving was with yellow bricks, which are still under the pavement that was place on later. Notice two figures on the sidewalk on the right side of the photo. Also notice the railroad crossing sign. This photo was taken before gates were placed across the tracks.
This photo is from a booklet of photos of Bluffton taken at the turn of an earlier century.
