First Mennonite Church host to Sister Care workshop in April
First Mennonite Church, Bluffton, is host to a Sister Care workshop on Friday and Saturday, April 26-27.
Carolyn Heggen and Rhoda Keener lead the weekend. The seminar is under the auspices of Mennonite Women USA. Sister Care seminars lead women interested in gathering with other women to learn ways to integrate scripture, prayer, self-care and individual gifts in caring ministry.
“It is no secret that women often become emotional and spiritual care givers of family members, neighbors and others through difficult times, said Elizabeth Kelly, contact person for the event. “Caring ministry can be both fulfilling and wearying, both privilege and burden.”
“Contrary to popular belief, we aren’t born knowing how to provide caring ministry to others while maintaining our own spiritual well‐being and balance in life,” said Kelly.
She said that scripture doesn’t offer a fool proof recipe for companioning others. Some of us learn by trial and error, some give up in despair, and others feel guilt about not ‘doing more.’
The weekend opens on Friday evening, April 26, with a 7 to 9 p.m. session. The Saturday, April 27, session continues from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Women of all ages may attend. The cost is $35. Friday refreshments and Saturday lunch and snacks are included. For more information contact [email protected]. Click here for more information and a registration form.
