May Day for the 100th time
Abigail Graber (center, with red and yellow trim) was part of a “legacy” couple added to Bluffton University’s traditional Maypole dance for May Day festivities on May 4. Graber, from Goshen, Ind., and her partner, Justin Neufeld Weaver of Bluffton, each with longstanding family ties to the university, formed a ninth couple for the 100th edition of the dance with which Bluffton alumni are familiar. First-year students wear colorful costumes and dance in pairs around the Maypole, weaving streamers together in a ceremony that’s also symbolic of the weaving of memories of the past, appreciation of the present and hope for the future.
