BFR expands sports training this summer
Area middle school and high school athletes have a new option for refining sport skills and staying in condition over the summer.
BFR Sports and Fitness has changed the format of the Jumpstart program to include both physical conditioning and sport-related drills. Jumpstart is a good companion to “open gym” sessions provided by high schools since the Jumpstart program will be focused on conditioning and form.
Jumpstart will be offered during both June and July; the three-week June session will start the week of June 10 and the July session (three weeks) will be held beginning the week of July 8.
Groups focusing on basketball, volleyball and soccer will be offered. Jumpstart meets twice per week for one hour each session; both a BFR trainer and area sport specialist will work with the athletes (male and female) who are entering grades 7-12.
The basketball group will meet on Tuesday and Thursdays from 4-5 p.m. The basketball specialist will be Levi Gleason, a 2011 Bluffton High School graduate who played for Anderson University.
The volleyball group will meet on Wednesday and Thursdays from 4-5 p.m. The area specialist is Jenna Buroker, a 2012 Bluffton High School graduate who played AAU volleyball throughout her youth career and is a current youth coach.
The soccer group will meet on Wednesday and Thursday from 4-5 p.m. under the direction of BFR’s sport coordinator, Amy Byers, who played collegiate soccer for Bluffton University and currently is a youth coach.
Byers, Britny Tuttle and Keri McCoy, BFR trainers, will direct the conditioning portion of the program. Each Thursday, all athletes will join together for an hour of conditioning stations to increase general physical conditioning needed for all sports.
The cost for Jumpstart is $90 ($56 BFR member) which includes six, one-hour sessions. Pre-registration is required plus a waiver release form is required. Deadline to register is 1 week prior to the monthly start date (June 3 and July 1).
For registration information, call BFR at 419-358-4150 or visit the website: www.bfronline.com.
