Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio residents bring home eight ribbons in art and writing competition

Four residents from Bluffton’s Maple Crest and three from the Mennonite Memorial Home were winners in this year’s LeadingAge of Ohio Art and Writing competition.
The show for the West region was hosted on June 20 by Good Samaritan Center, Arlington. All eight MHCO entries won first, second and third place ribbons. These high finishes qualifies each contestant to enter the state level contest on Sept. 11-12 in Columbus.
Bluffton winners follow:
Pat Althaus – 3rd place – “Quilted Table runner” (small quilted work)
Ilda Bassitt – 1st place – “Crocheted Hat” (wearable art)
Marilyn Bullock – 1st place – “Knitted Caps and Matching Mittens” (woven arts)
Joanne Niswander – 1st place – “Chickadees and Dogwood” (needle art – counted cross stitch)
Joanne Niswander – 1st place – “This Old House” (prose, non-fiction)
Della Salter – 2nd place – “A View from the Ruins” (Fine Art I)
Dean Sommers – 3rd place –“Flag City Honor Flight” (prose, non-fiction)
Phyllis Suter – 2nd place – “Autumn Baskets” (small quilted work)
