The Bluffton University women’s soccer team rebounded from its Saturday overtime loss in a big way as they defeated the Andrews University Cardinals 8-0 in front of a solid Labor Day crowd at Bluffton High School’s Steinmetz Field on Monday, Sept. 2.
Eight different Beavers cracked the scorebook on Monday, with the first score in the fifth minute as senior Aimee Whitmer (Bowling Green/Otsego) was able to fire one home. In the 12th minute, senior Megan Moreo (Spencerville/Delphos Jefferson) was able to get her first goal of the season for a 2-0 lead which they took into the break.
The home team finally opened up the scoring with three goals in the first 10 minutes of period two. The goals were scored by junior Amanda Hunsberger (Shipshewana, IN/Westview), freshman Kristen Tropf (Findlay/Van Buren) and senior Jessica Ramirez (Archbold), giving the Beavers a 5-0 advantage in the 53rd minute. The Cardinals slowed the Beavers down for the next 15 minutes of play before freshmen Emily Bolen (Trenton/Middletown Madison) and Katie Roushia (Bryan) knocked in goals just over a minute apart. Junior Danielle McQuillin (Delta/Pike-Delta-York) capped the scoring with her tally in the 75th minute.
The Beavers outshot the Cardinals 37-3, while senior keeper Maggie Armstrong (Vevay, IN/Switzerland) earned the shutout with her three saves.
The Bluffton women will take just over a week off before they hit the road next Wednesday, Sept. 11, when they travel to Circleville for a meeting with the Ohio Christian University Trailblazers at 4 p.m. The Beavers are at Davenport on the 14th before they return home on Wednesday, Sept. 18 to take on the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets at 4 p.m. Come support your Beavers!
