Margaret Steiner celebrates 95th birthday
Lifelong Bluffton resident Margaret Steiner celebrates her 95th birthday on Oct 23, 2009.
Born in 1914 to Fred and Bertha (Althaus) Hahn, she graduated from Bluffton High School in 1932. She was the youngest of the Hahn children who were William, Lester, Howard and Florence.
Margaret lived most of her adult life at 201 N. Lawn Ave., in the home built by her maternal grandfather, Rudolph Althaus, a Swiss immigrant who was among the signers of a petition to change the name of Shannon to Bluffton.
In August 1937 she married Nelson F. Steiner, who is deceased. Nelson and Margaret had three children, Mary (Guy) Lord, Shorewood, Wisc., Rudi (Cheryl) Steiner, Homewood, Ill., and Fred (Mary) Bluffton. There are seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Steiner participated in several community activities including First United Methodist Church, Progressive Mother's Club and in several gardening organizations. She was a charter member of the Lima Symphony Orchestra, where she played the cello.
She retired from nursing at the Mennonite Memorial Home, where she now lives.
