Blocked extra point leads Pirates to fourth win of season over Spencerville
By Bryan Kress
The biggest play of the BHS-Spencerville game came with 23 seconds left in the game on special teams as Noah Stratton blocked an extra point to seal the game at 14-13 for the Pirates.
The first score of the game didn’t come until the second quarter as Mitchell Ault hit Robbie Stratton for 14 yards and a score.
Spencerville’s defense would get the scoring for them as Aaron Crider recovered a fumble in the Pirate’s end zone in the third quarter to tie the game.
Ault would throw the go-ahead score from 22 yards out to Levi Kistler late in the third and connect on a two-point conversion to Noah Stratton to put the game at 14-7.
Spencerville would drive and with 23 seconds left score on a two-yard touchdown run, but Noah Stratton would block the extra point and the Pirate’s would recover the onside kick to win the game.
Ault led the game in passing with 23 completions for 277 yards. He also led the team in rushing with 21 yards on 10 carries.
The Pirate defense played another solid game only allowing one score and a total of 180 yards.
Bluffton will be at home this week to take on Lima Central Catholic (5-2).
