Dick Tschetter pastored at St. John Mennonite; after retirement was on staff of Ebenezer Mennonite
Richard "Dick" Tschetter, 95 died Jan. 23, 2014, at his residence. He was born to Peter P. and Carra (Dirks) Tschetter on Dec. 17, 1918, in Canton, Kansas. He grew up at Bridgewater and Freeman, S.D. and graduated from Freeman High School. He also graduated from Grace Bible Institute (now Grace University) in Omaha, Neb., and from Bethel College in North Newton, Kan.
While at Grace, he met and married Ruth Garbers. He pastored St. Paul's Evangelical Reformed Church of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Herold Mennonite Church of Bessie, Okla., St. John Mennonite Church of Pandora, Mt. Olivet Mennonite Church of Huron, S.D. and First Mennonite Church of Pretty Prairie, Kan.
After his retirement he served on the staff of Ebenezer Mennonite Church of Bluffton. His personal library contained over 2,500 volumes.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, his daughter Rosalyn (Doug) Lehman of Mt. Cory; a son Russell (Mary) Tschetter of North Bend, Ore.; granddaughters Carra and Amanda Lehman of Portland, Ore.; step-grandchildren Jessica (Stuart) Smith of Bartow, Fla.; Bob Little of Seattle, Wash.; Lindsay Little of Livingston, Mont.; and Joey Little of North Bend, Ore.; step-great grandsons Dominic and Dawson of Livingston, Mont.; a brother Paul Tschetter of Phoenix, Ariz.; and a sister Caroline (Dalton) Jones of San Antonio, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Eva Ruth Tschetter Trammel.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton. Revs. Dick Potter and Roger Ford officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace University or Ebenezer Mennonite Church.
