Sport leagues and clinics to start at BFR
Several spring sport leagues are about to begin at BFR Sports & Fitness. Each league allows for individual player registration on mixed age teams. All matches and practices will be held at the BFR Sports & Fitness facility located at 215 Snider Road in Bluffton, Ohio.
Football: Youth ages 5-12 years can participate in the Bluffton NFL Flag Football League beginning the week of March 31. NFL Flag is a national youth sport program; BFR will offer several age divisions based on the ages of participants. Cost to register is $50 per player; teams in the league practice one evening per week and play scrimmages on Saturday mornings. A 4-week player clinic (grades K-3) will be held on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. beginning March 4; cost is $25 per child.
Soccer: The Spring Outdoor Soccer league for young children will begin April 8. Participants must have been under 6 years of age as of August 1, 2013 and over the age of 4 years as of December 1, 2013. Cost for the 5-week league is $40; the league meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. New players may choose to enroll in a 5-week Soccer Fun class to be held on Thursdays from 4:30-5:15 p.m. beginning March 6. The Soccer Fun class includes activities to develop soccer foot skills; cost for the indoor class is $25.
Volleyball: A developmental volleyball league will begin April 12, 2014 and continue for seven weeks. The league is open to girls currently in grades 4, 5 or 6 (any school or home-schooled). A player assessment day will be held on Saturday, April 12 and players will be assigned to teams on that day. This league is a great entry point for new volleyball players as well as an off-season training for players with prior league experience. Cost for the league is $50 per player. A volleyball pre-season clinic is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, March 19 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. The clinic will prepare players for league play; each session will include instruction on serving, setting and passing. Cost for the 4-week clinic is $25.
Tennis: A doubles clinic for high school age players will be held on Saturday, March 21 from 1-3 p.m. The clinic will introduce court positioning and match strategy. The clinic will be held on the inside court of BFR. Participants should bring a racquet and a notebook for the strategy portion of the clinic. The clinic is free to current BFR tennis students and will cost $10 for others. Pre-registration is required by March 19; call BFR at 419-358-4150 to register.
