Forum to explore race, ethnicity
“Race and Ethnicity in America: Get over it?!” will be Dr. Crystal Sellers Battle’s topic for Bluffton University’s Civic Engagement Day Forum on Tuesday, April 8, in Yoder Recital Hall. Her 11 a.m. presentation is free and open to the public.
Each year, the university focuses on a significant contemporary issue that is related to its mission and becomes the subject of cross-disciplinary exploration. This year’s theme has been “Race and Ethnicity in America: Celebration, Struggle, Opportunity,” which Battle—Bluffton’s 2013-14 Civic Engagement Scholar—will discuss from her perspective as an African-American female professor and an activist on campus. More specifically, the assistant professor of music will address encounters she has had that have framed her thinking and feelings about race.
