Allen County 39th in Ohio health outcomes; 66th in health factors
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, in conjunction with the University of Wisconsin, has again compiled County Health Rankings, a tool they have developed so that counties can see how their health ranks with that of others in the state. Ohio and county data are now on the County Health Rankings website: www.countyhealthrankings.org. These rankings have been released annually since 2010.
Each year the health rankings reveal Health Outcomes, which include the length and quality of life, as well as Health Factors that take into consideration health behaviors, clinical care, social and economic factors and physical environment. This year, Allen County ranks 39th in Health Outcomes and 66th in Health Factors.
Allen County’s rankings are no surprise for county health officials. “This is one measure we can use to see how we compare with other communities in Ohio and to gauge if we are addressing the real issues our residents face,” said Kathy Luhn, Health Commissioner. “There are many agencies working together to improve the physical, mental health and social wellbeing of the community.”
Information received from the County Health Rankings helps with the ongoing assessment of Allen County’s health. There will be an opportunity this fall for Allen County residents to respond to a health survey as a part of the next Allen County Health Risk and Community Needs Assessment. This survey will provide the community with valuable information so that agencies can continue to provide services and opportunities to make Allen County a healthier place to live, work and play.
