Pops Concert on tap
Four Bluffton University musical ensembles will come together Friday, April 11, to present the annual Pops Concert at 7:30 p.m. in Founders Hall. The concert is free and open to the public; donations will be accepted for program costs, with any excess funds going toward music scholarships.
The evening will begin with jazz from the university’s Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Adam Schattschneider, professor of music. The ensemble’s rendition of Lerner and Loewe’s “Get Me to the Church on Time” will feature Bluffton’s Camerata Singers, the select choral group that will also perform later in the program.
Dr. Mark J. Suderman, professor of music, conducts both Camerata Singers and the University Chorale, which will perform as well. Leading the chorale at the concert will be student conductors Neil Macke of Ottawa, Ohio; Ashley Musgrave of Ada, Ohio; Bethany Babcock of Deshler, Ohio; and Brittney Ries of Freeman, S.D.
The fourth performing ensemble is the Concert Band, conducted by Dr. Roy Couch, a visiting assistant professor of music. The band’s featured work will be an arrangement of “Mambo” from “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein.
