Six math workshops available to teachers
Bluffton University will offer six summer mathematics workshops—five of them new this year—for teachers of elementary through high school students.
The 26th annual workshops, hosted by adjunct faculty member Duane Bollenbacher, are all three-day sessions, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. Cost per workshop is $125 if it is for Local Professional Development Committee credit, or $275 for graduate workshop credit. Lunches are included; other meals and housing are available.
Bollenbacher, a high school math teacher for 30 years, will teach two workshops. “HQT Certification for the Intervention Specialist in Mathematics Content,” which will be held from June 10-12, and is the only class repeated from previous years. He will also teach “Proven and Effective Methods for Passing the End-of-Course Exam,” which will be offered from June 24-26 and again from Aug. 5-7.
The other four workshops—all new—will be held June 17-19:
· “K-2 Activities and Problem-Solving to Learn and to Teach Good Mathematics”
· “Best Practices for Rational Numbers: Fractions and Decimals Grades 3-5”
· “Keeping Current in an Ever-Changing World of a Middle School Mathematics Teacher
· “Using Problem-Solving Techniques to Learn and to Teach Good High School Mathematics”
Registration deadlines are eight days prior to the first day of each course.
For more information, contact Bollenbacher at 419-358-3296 (work), 419-358-7365 (home) or at [email protected].
