Former Bluffton Nationwide Insurance agent, Bruce Shelly, dies in Florida
Former Bluffton insurance agent, Bruce G. Shelly, 81 of Temple Terrace, Fla., died June 25, 2014. He was born in Wadsworth, Ohio, to Wilmer and Emma Shelly on Feb. 16, 1933.
Mr. Shelly graduated from high school in Boyertown, Pa., and graduated in Business Administration from Bluffton College.
After serving the U.S. Army Signal Corp as a cryptographer in Okinawa, he married his wife, Marilyn, on Aug. 30, 1957 in Gomer, Ohio. He was a Nationwide insurance agent in Bluffton for 31 years, earning membership into the Nationwide President’s Club.
He was an active member of the Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club and The National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors.
Mr. Shelly is survived by his wife Marilyn; his children Janet (James) Donigan of Tampa Fla., Randall (Allison) Shelly of Concord Mass., Julie (Edwin) Brockman of Wesley Chapel Fla.; his grandchildren Emma (Thiago) Shelly, Amanda Shelly, Mackenzie Donigan, Lainey Donigan, Daley Donigan, Andrew Brockman; his great-granddaughter Olivia Ferazzo; his sister Carol (Verne) Schirch of Harrisonburg, Va.; and his brother, Robert (Lorrie) Shelly of Hendersonville N.C.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014 at Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church in Tampa Fla., at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla., at 2 p.m., following the memorial service.
