Do you speak a foreign language? the public library wants to hear from you; here's the August library schedule of events
August is full of activies at the Bluffton Public Library. Here's the schedule:
Tutor Me Paperless returns in August. Every Wednesday of the month, a one-on-one tutor will meet with patrons with technology questions free of charge. Your topics may vary, so call in to specify that topic and to secure a reservation.
Storytime (Ages 3 to 5): Visit Storytime on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. or Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Our theme for August –December is ‘Around the world in 142 days,’ looking at stories from around the world, immigration and languages.
We are looking for Storytime friends who can speak any of the following languages: Spanish, Russian, Hindi, Urdu, Thai, Mandarin , German, French, Portuguese and Arabic. If you would be willing to teach us a few phrases please contact Esther Birkey the Youth Services Coordinator by emailing [email protected]
On Saturday, Aug. 2, the library will host Paws to Read with Tango!, with golden retriever, Tango. People of all ages are welcome to spend time with this certified therapy dog and read her a story.
Chris Gott of Gott Teach Coach will offer technology classes again this August. The Aug. 5 meeting is titled, “I Want to Buy a Tablet, But I’m Not Sure Which One,” and the August 12th meeting will be, “Help! I Don’t Understand my Kid’s iPad!” These meetings are both at 5:30 p.m. and registration is required.
Free Marketplace and Medicaid Assistance is available at the library on Aug. 6 and Aug. 13. Registration is required for this private, one-on-one meeting with a licensed Navigator.
Jammin’ @ the Library return Aug. 12 and Aug. 21 at 6 p.m. This is an informal time for acoustic musicians to gather and share their love of music. Anyone is welcome.
On Aug. 14, Jr. Brain Builders returns to the library. This is for ages 1-3 and will promote the development of fine motor skills.
On Aug. 18, local artist Ed Yagerman returns for another edition of Space Art. Bring your own poster board and spray paint for this fun, creative, and hands-on program. Registration is required for this event and participants will leave with their own piece of artwork.
The Gluten-Free/Allergy Support Group will meet Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. on the lower level of the library. Anyone is welcome to stop by or join.
The library also encourages patrons to stop by to view August’s display case, which will exhibit items for the St. Mary Parish Sesquicentennial.
A second installment in the library’s “How to Make Cultured..,” series is called How to Make Cultured Beverages. This educational program will be on Aug. 28 at 6:30 p.m. —complete with free samples.
