Elizabeth Kelly leads care of cancer survivor workshop
Clergy, social workers, counselors, nurses, physicians and community health workers are invited to attend a workshop on providing psychosocial and spiritual care to cancer survivors from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 in the Marathon Auditorium at Blanchard Valley Hospital, 1900 S. Main St., Findlay. Social work continuing education credits will be offered to those in attendance.
The event will focus on improving the ability to identify psychosocial and spiritual distress in cancer patients and developing practical skills and strategies for working with these patients through survivorship.
“As treatment has improved and survivorship increased, people with cancer face a new and different journey across the continuum of life,” said Elizabeth Kelly, BVHS spiritual care coordinator. “This workshop will identify the broad changes in cancer diagnosis, treatment and survivorship and offer strategies such as proactive awareness and supportive response for companioning people on their journey through cancer and survivorship.”
This event is funded by the Spiritual Care Endowment, an endowed fund of the Blanchard Valley Health Foundation made possible by the Great Lakes Conference of the Churches of God.
Registration is required and must be made by October 1. Call Blanchard Valley Hospital Spiritual Care at 419-429-6463 or visitbvhealthsystem.org to fill out a registration form.
