WAYNESBURG, Penn. - Waynesburg University needed overtime to defeat the Beavers 4-3 on Saturday, September 27, 2014. With the loss, Bluffton dipped to 2-7 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 4-4-2 overall.
Each team scored within the first two minutes of the match as Waynesburg capitalized on a corner kick just over one minute into the contest. Senior Peter Carlson (Toledo/Springfield) answered with an equalizer just 20 seconds later courtesy of an assist from junior Michael Ralph (Mansfield/Christian).
A Bluffton University foul led to a penalty kick goal which gave Waynesburg a 2-1 lead. After a series of yellow cards to each team and a red card to Bluffton’s Peter Carlson, the Beavers answered before the half with a goal by John Eckenrode (Northwood/Millbury Lake) from Blake Drewes (Archbold).
Waynesburg started the second half with another quick goal by Chad Palucka at the 52-minute mark. A throw in from Adrian Ramirez (Archbold) found Drewes and he did the rest, knotting the score at three with just under 30 minutes to play.
Waynesburg continued their hot start routine with the game-clinching goal just one minute into the overtime session by Zack Benedict.
The Beavers are back on the pitch Wednesday, Oct. 1, against Kuyper at Davenport. The last non-conference contest of the season is slated to start at 7 PM.
